In Cafes

Sitting at tables like these
In cafes
Alone with a mug of tea
Makes me think of you
Because I imagine
You might often have sat alone like this too,
Just your cigarette, the difference between us.
Were you alone for the peace
Or were you hoping that the loneliness and emptiness
Might one day end with
Someone making their way to your table?
If you were still here, I might
Have made my way to your table
And smiled “hello, how are you today?”.
